I've never really been a gallery or museums sort of guy however last October we took the opportunity to visit the Musée de la Corse in Corte. Before I go any further museum or not Corte should be on your list and the stunning Restonica Gorge.
The museum is unusual in that it has both an exterior and interior. The exterior is a fascinating wander through the ancient citadel. The interior is very well laid out and we particularly enjoyed the more 'contemporary' exhibits towards the conclusion. A real eye catcher however is the tourism section!
It is a little known fact that, along side the possible invention of Coca-Cola, Corsica was the world's first package holiday destination back in the 1950's. Horizon Travel, founded by Vladimir Raitz following his own Corsican sojourn in 1949 organised a charter and all inclusive holiday in Corsica. The very first flight was from Gatwick Airport on 20 May 1949 at a cost of £32.10s - in today's money that's about £1,500. Airspan Travel then began to offer flights from the UK's international airport in Croydon.
Who knew and still, as far as I can see, a best kept secret despite being the closest Mediterranean island destination to the UK by direct flight. Book now!
