Frequently asked questions
Should I bring my own bike with me
Most definitely yes if you can. Good quality road bikes for rent are very limited in availability on the island
Where can I store my bike box
Not at the airport unless you plan to hire a car – asked nicely the car hire companies will usually find a space for your box. If you’re not renting a car then stay a first night at a nearby hotel if they will most likely look after your box whilst your riding
Where can I rent a road bike from
I don't rent out bikes. On this page I have listed the places that I am aware of that have what you’ll be looking for – a good quality road bike. They are few and far between and their stocks are limited. If possible reserve in advance
Do you organize tours
No I don't. My website is completely commerce free – I don’t sell anything or receive fees of any type. I do however recommend one or two local companies that do know the island well and who will be happy to discuss your requirements with you. See,
I am always happy to advise on all aspects of itineraries and route plans. In addition there are a number of international operators who run tours
When is the best time to come and ride
My favourite months are April, May, June, September and October. The weather is usually settled and warm and the island is significantly less busy than in July and August. If you come in those two busy summer months then my advice is to rise and ride early in the day as it is cooler and there will be less traffic on the roads. Ridng during the winter is perfectly possible but away from the coasts there can be a lot of snow and ice and also there is little in the way od amenities for the visitor during those months
Can I take my bike on the train
No, bikes cannot be transported on Corsica railways
Is there any other public transport between main points of arrival/departure
There are some coach services and you can find information about these from the local tourist offices. However I am not aware of any form of public transport that will carry your bike
Can I bring my bike to Corsica on the ferry
Yes this is the most popular way for cycle tourists to arrive in Corsica. It is worth noting that Corsica Ferries will allow you to arrive/depart from different ports on the island
Can I rent a tandem
I am not aware of any tandems for rental on the island. However I do know that you can rent a tandem before leaving mainland France from http://www.bikerentalfrance.com/en/ and then bring it with you on the ferry
Is it ok to camp in the wild
As with most places the least risk option is to use a local campsite. There are plenty to choose from at http://www.campingcorse.com/vacances-corse-uk.html
How do I get details for the Randonee Cols Corse
The contact for information is . Having said that I’m not aware of anyone who has had success in getting either the licence card or the commemorative medal
How fit do I have to be
There is little in the way of flat riding so I would say that you need to be experienced in riding up and down hills which implies a good level of fitness. The routes on my website give details of what to expect in terms of distance, gradients etc. Having said that you can always ride a portion of a route or the local roads near where you decide to stay
What languages are spoken
Whilst Corsica has it’s own language it is French that is the main language after all you will be in departments 2a and 2b of metropolitan France. Italian is also widely spoken. English is not widely spoken and you will not encounter any where near as many English speakers as you would in say the South of France
